Verona

After driving around Tuscany, we settled in Verona for a few days. Something about Fall, the old buildings and river made Verona a very magical place to be.

We befriended a local couple one evening at a wine bar. They invited us over for dinner to try Andrea’s carbonara later that week. When we arrived, they had already prepared the appetizer, a potato and chive frittata. I had expressed interest in learning to make carbonara and so after we finished our first course, we all made our way to the kitchen for a cooking lesson! Carbonara anyone? For dessert, we had a cheesecake Andrea’s mom made and passion fruit custard Adriana made. There is something so Human about cooking and eating together. Despite our differences and the language barrier, we still managed to connect. It was an evening to remember.

Another highlight in Verona was visiting L’Arco winery. I’m a huge fan of L’Arco wines and was very excited to meet Luca, the winemaker. We sat in the cellar, sampled his wines and got to know him. When asked about the inspiration for his wine, he said it wasn’t creativity, but patience...for the land, vine, weather and process. His comment stuck with me. Afterwards, we grabbed lunch. Since the restaurant he recommended was not busing or walking distance from the winery, he insisted on taking us and dropping us off. He drove us into a village up the mountains to a restaurant that’s been operated by one family for the last century. The meal was delicious. We‘re very appreciative of his time and will fondly remember this day when we drink his wines at home.

Verona was very picturesque and hospitable. Definitely hope to return one day.
